I would suggest disinfecting used footwear before wearing it. For my thrift store shoes, I've used 10 Seconds.

I tried the Parade Gloss out of necessity. Ran out of my normal Kiwi paste (read that black.) The local store hadn't restocked their supply, leaving me no choice but to try the Parade Gloss. It looks good and seems to stand up to the rain as well, or better, than the regular paste.

I think that Parade Gloss may be a bit closer to Lincoln Stain Wax...or I might be wrong. I use both regular Kiwi Black polish and Lincoln Stain Wax Black in the same shining session. I use the regular Kiwi to build up my base coat. For finishing I used the Lincoln. I don't know if it's a bit softer or harder or what, but I find that it gives a much shinier finish coat than the Kiwi.
I need to get to a cobbler or order online to get some white bristle brushes (for my brown and tan shoes)...so when I do, I think I'm going to get some blue polish for a finish coat, as I've heard that it creates a little extra luster when applied as a finish coat over black boots/shoes. My black polishes are both kind cracked and dried out...maybe I'll order some Kelly's as well to see if there's any difference.

Exactly. No need for the Ghillie style of laces here, give them some love and you'll be good to go.

Take it from a former active-duty Marine, all you need is Kiwi black shoe polish, a good applicator brush, a good buffing brush, a soft polishing cloth, and Kiwi edge dressing for the soles, and that's it (maybe a tin of Kiwi saddle soap to clean the leather)! Don't forget about cedar shoe trees and a shoe horn as well.
Cheers,

+2 from another Marine. No kidding, one of my nicknames in the Corps was Kiwi. My spitshines were legendary. My dad, (old school Marine) taught me to spitshine when I was about 15 or so. I made a LOT of extra cash and free hootch doing other guy's boots and shoes (in my day, we had black leather.. none of this cool desert suede).
My secret weapon was finishing with Kiwi Neutral. Added a bit of depth, like a clear coat. And forget anything you read about alcohol, lighters, cotton balls and other "shortcuts and tricks". Kiwi, a well worn T-shirt, and no fear of black fingertips will give you something you can shave with in very little time.

In basic, I watched the guy in the next bunk set fire to his boot while trying to melt the paste into the leather with a lighter. Left a mark on the toe of the boot. When the DI saw it, he politely explained (as only a DI can) the error of the particular recruit's polishing method.

Semper Fi!!! I like the Kiwi neutral idea, and I know precisely what you mean when you say "depth". Exactly, forget about shortcuts and anything to do with alcohol, lighters, etc. Well said 'Kiwi'...hahaha!
