It looks to me like they are wearing the Sutherland tartan.
I like the officer in #2 better. The dark hose, pulled up, look sharp and more in keeping with the uniform.
The officer in #1, with the hose pushed down, looks too casual for being on-duty. To me, the hose-pushed-down look is a casual, wear to the pub, go for a walkabout, kind of look. Rather like the equivalent of wearing your shirt untucked. Loose, casual and comfy. For an officer on duty, I would have worn them pulled up.
And one last thing -- if you wear your hose pushed down, please no garter flashes!

Kudos to the City of Flagstaff for allowing their officers to "blend" into the event.
The sporran on the first officer looks like a bit of overkill with all the pouches on his belt. Still, I guess he still needed somewhere to put his keys and wallet.

Looked at my pics of the Long's Peak games in Estes Park last night. Over 6 yeras of pics and I couldn't find any of the police officers. I'll have to make sure I get several this year.

Matt got to this thread first, so he gets the prize.
Yes, it is the sutherland tartan (muted to be exact). I have the EXACT same one on today!

Are there any pictures of kilted police officers - or kilted anyone - riding bicycles?
I have yet to figure out how kilts can be worn "on-bike" with any semblance of modesty. Mounting, dismounting, and airspeed are all problems. Perhaps the old style ladies frames could help with the first two.

I too have seen the Estes Park PD on bicycles. Don't have any photos but that can be fixed in September. Everyone on the PD there wears the kilt during the games, the ones providing security AND those on regular patrol. The only ones I've seen without have been either newer or not full time. All this based on the last 7+ years of spending the weekend after Labor Day in Estes Park, CO for the LONGS PEAK SCOTTISH/IRISH HIGHLAND FESTIVAL.

Livingston,
Counting on you for pics this year. Wonder how many kilted police officers we can get added to Big Paul's new gallery of kilted cops?

Cool pics Ron! Now, anybody who wants to wear a kilt to work has some more ammo for the argument.
And I will have to buck Matt and say that I think that the flashes with the hose down actually look all right to me. However, that is just from the picture. I reserve the right to change my mind after trying it in the privacy of my home to see how it really looks.
