My 16 year-old nephew saw me in my kilt for the first time this past Christmas. His words: "I dig the get up! Nice kilt!"

Looks like the youth of America are on the right path

    Riverkilt, I have 2 comments.

    1) you are doing the kids in your community a great service. You are a fine fellow.

    2) That kind of comment from a teenager is a very high complement. I remember once last spring I was parking my Vespa right outside the window at the Downtown Flying Saucer one Saturday afternoon. A youg man about 17 was walking by and said "A kilt. That rules!" I was beaming for about 3 hours after that

Was back at the high school this morning for one more class - the last - and only comment was from a male teacher in his 30s or so, "Ahhh, a Scotsman."

Course its snowing heavily and most folks were walking about campus with their heads down. Hoping it lets up to get me over the mountain this afternoon for the Mesa, AZ Highland Games...

I taught "prevention of sexual harassment" to a coed group of high school-aged summer camp employees last year. I decided to go in my UK Mocker. Most of the students' comments on the break were "COOL! Where did you get that?" and the like.

One young man decided to comment (in class) that I couldn't teach sexual harassment prevention to them because "you're wearing a skirt and that means you're not a man."

    Hmmm... there's always one.

I pressed on with the instruction, and his peers straightened him out at the next break.

All in all, I counted it as a success!

I wasn't there for the moment, but this may not have been said with vitriol. Some kids now adays just want to be the center of the class' attention and maybe a joke. He was probably a secret admirer of the kilt and wished he had the balls to wear one instead of "being cool".

Hey, EKC, what a change from the first thread you started. Good on ya for keepin on with the kilt and helping to change some attitudes at your school!

That's one reason I didn't make a point of making a point of it with the class - and it was a non-issue later. Great observation!
