Land's End is the answer to several clothing problems.
They consistantly make nice, basic, well constructed stuff. The point about shirts is well taken...a nice blue dress shirt is a nice blue dress shirt in New York City, Chicago, Portland, San Antonio or Atlanta (or any smaller towns or cities in-between). I never thought of Land's End as "snooty" or even "upscale"...probably because they've always had an outlet store up on the North Side of Chicago and have been constantly trying to dump their excess merchandise at a discount. The jackets and parkas are fantastic and priced very competitively...and if you shop for them off-season, they're a downright steal. The Sears thing is nice...you can drag the kids to Sears, get them a good winter parka and not break the bank. If anything Land's End has helped improve Sears image.

I guess I would be one of those "idiots", then, because I still long for a pair of authentic Bermudas to wear with my blue blazer.
Read the article for the "link" between Bermudas and Highland attire.

Are you longing for the more traditional colors - gray, beige, etc. - or something that falls into the "Things I'd Pay To See" thread? such as:

BTW, the article says the Bermudians appear to have borrowed their Bermuda knee socks from the Scots.

Well, I guess I'm an idiot and unfit for the kilt. The uniform of my school, to grade 10, was crested blue blazer, red tie, white shirt and shorts. At grade 10 students were allowed to wear long pants to signify their status as upperclassmen. My kilting predates the uniform, though, so in spite of "not being classy enough" to wear it, I believe that I shall continue.

Madrass, khaki... ok... Put why wear plaid shorts that look like kilts when you can just wear a kilt? ::TILT::
