I have been in contact with Matt, I have 19.5 inch muscular calves. He confirmed that I would be better set with the made to measure Lewis hose. So I have to add another item to my Jonesing list! Oh well Rome wasn't built in a day either.

Looks great
Thanks for the review and the info, Fearnest. I can see why Lewis Hose are so coveted and comfortable. Elastic on my legs all day would make my feet turn blue.
ps: now we all know what you wear under your kilt...Lewis Hose

So went ahead and got a tradtional garter dealie with the last load of Lewis Kilt hose (Bison - a sort of tan/brown, Bottle Green, and Lovat Green).
Got a red one since I thought it'd be most versitile. Thanks for the photo Fearnest or I think I'd have struggled with how to make it work.
Wore the red traditional garter with the lovat green Lewis hose and my Leatherneck tartan yesterday for doing chores around town and a three hour drive across the backroads (mostly dirt) of the Navajo and Hopi reservations to see my lady this weekend.
Them traditional garter thingies held up fine. They do seem "less tight" than my elastic garters with tartan flashes. But they were still tight enough to keep my skien dubh in place - and I did catch air once going a tad to fast on bad rez road. That amazed me.
Bottom line, I liked it. Only "negative" thing is that I'm compulsive and I kept trying to straighten out the loose threads on the end so they were neat and orderly....don't think they're supposed to be that way though.
Wish there were a way to mix tartan flashes with these puppies. Maybe thread the flashes on and have both....hmmmm...off to play with that...
Gotta say, Matt and Fearnest are certainly correct in saying these are more comfortable than elastic garters.

Fearnest,
Thanks a lot! Between you and Riverkilt I couldn't resist, I had to order a pair for myself.
Jonesing, jonesing, jonesing

Thanks for the great review. I was thinking of buying a pair of each when I order my kilt in a couple of weeks. Heading out to the museum to do that. I'll definitely be adding these to the list now.

Are you heading out to the museum right now? Because we are closed on Sundays.... I'd hate for you to drive all the way from Cary to find a closed sign on the door!

Just posted on the general topic forum about changing my tire kilted today. Forgot to mention I had on Lewis hose and them new garter dealies...both held up well - particularly the garter dealies - and I spent a LOT of time down on the ground manuevering various parts into place.
I'm even more impressed. These garter thingies ain't no namby pamby product...they work well in action too.

A good friend had a set he brought home from Scotland. I found these and ordered three pairs this week. They look fantastic with a great kilt.
