Scotty was shown at least once in the original series wearing a kilt, so the precedent has already been set. Not full time though, it's just to hard to scramble through the Jeffries tubes in a kilt.

I agree with him, the Enterprise isn't dated, just because it doesn't have all kinds of things sticking out of it like today's sci-fi (such as Babylon 5). Jefferies designed her that way for a reason. We'll see how things go, it does look like she's more streamlined than the NX-01.

But, like I said before, the old girl's had a few refits in her day, and when you consider the immensity of the refit of 2270-2271 (ST:TMP), which probably replaced 90% of the ship, these things happen. In fact, since this takes place before 'Where No Man Has Gone Before', showing the ship as it was in the series would be non-canon, since she was different in 'The Cage'.

I kind of liked that the Earth Alliance ships on B5 looked function (let's here it for rotating midsections for artificial gravity!). I can remember having a conversation with my Dad as a kid about the design of the Enterprise and how exactly the thing would really move through space based on the design. Never talk about Star Trek with an engineer (especially how the transporter system really works! )

I liked the Reliant's design much better than the Enterprise's in the second movie.

Those TOS movie era ships are still my favourites, they just look majestic. Especially the Enterprise...... I need to go pull a DVD now!

I must've assembled a dozen of the old blue AMT models of Enterprise in my childhood. I loved that ship... and still do.

The transporter was most unique in operation. The springlike sounding sproing or thwaing noise was important for the transportees to know that they need to be motionless until they hear it again at the reassembly point!!!

The freaky thing is that they had a Viacom store here in Chicago for a while...the Star Trek stuff was up on the second floor and the elevator from one to two had the overhead lights and did a little light effect and the transporter sound when you were going up...it never failed to get smiles if not outright laughter from the passengers. They probably have this sort of thing at the Las Vegas Trek thing now but this was a while back before that was built.

I am totally revved up to see it, I have enjoyed ST since I first started watching it in 1970. It's a long wait 'til December, hopefully Indiana Jones 4 in May will take my mind off it for a while...
