Yep - I don't have a sgian dubh - this is my substitute. I just got my first traditional kilt on Wednesday (SWK standard nightstalker), so I thought I'd work up a sgian don't do go with it. I'll try it out tomorrow for the first time, as I have to go to a wedding.

In the right circumstances a bottle opener is a lot more useful than a knife!

Even better is when a beautiful lady slides her hand down your calf to borrow it!

Yep, the top one is a $1 paint can opener from the hardware store. Cut off the paint can opener end (it's flat and wider than the rest of the shaft), drill a hole to fit the shaft, use some epoxy, and you're set. Before setting it, I cut some grooves in the shaft to hold the epoxy better, though.

I've got a pile of paint can openers in the shop; I'm not to keen on using one for a sgian don't, though. To my mind, they look too much like what they started as.

Converting a cast opener into something to wear in the sock, though - that's a great idea!

I like the heavy-duty cast opener that came from the wing corkscrew. It has a much more "polished" look to it.
