I just got my first kilt yesterday -- a UK Mocker. Following their online directions very closely I ordered my 37" kilt with a 21.5" length. While the kilt was being shipped this way I waded through 225 pages of kilting Do's and Don'ts...I have to admit it made me a bit nervous about the fit of my kilt. When the Mocker finally arrived and I put it on I found that I'm fine with the waist size (a bit smaller would be good -- maybe after washing?) but the length is longer than I'd like. It comes to the bottom of my knee, a kilting "dinnae!" I've learned. BUT the tags that came with the kilt clearly state that it's designed to come "to rest roughly below your kneecap." Long story short, UK's online measuring directions will lead to your kilt fitting the way they planned on it. If you want different results you'll need to do some adjusting on your own. Next kilt, I guess.

Since a UK Mocker is a poly/cotton mix and not straight up cotton, you may not experience very much shrinkage. UK does their sizes every inch, so if you have more than an inch you might want to go down in size next time, but I'm sure you'll get a good feel for what size you want after wearing your Mocker a bit longer.
I like to wear my UK's at their specified "just below the kneecap". Their lengths vary by 1.5", so you have to think about if you want it that much higher. For instance I have a Survival that's at 21.5" and I also have ones at 23". I wear my UK's above the jeans waist, and the 23" is just right for that. If I wear my UK on my hip/jeans waist then 21.5" is good.

A little lower on the knee is fine with a UK if you're wearing it with your hose scrunched down. I have 3 UKs--2 @ 23" length and 1 @ 21.5". The one I wear the most is a 23" and if I wear my belt loose it rides below (sometimes well below) mid knee. Not a problem, and nary a complaint from the peanut gallery.

    Enjoy the FREEDOM! Kilt on!
