First suggestion is a Utilikilt denim original. It'll arrive as stiff as new jeans used to be - and with that delicious denim fabric smell to it. Wash it about six times in a row with unscented Downy then wear it a lot and you'll soon have a kilt that is as comfie as old jeans because the denim has softened just like old jean denim softens.

Second suggestion would be any SportKilt since their cotton/poly fabric is soft like pajamas.

I'd have to say it's my cargo kilt from Steve at Freedom kilts. Fits like a glove, and the pockets allow me quick access to everything I need to carry each day.
It was a bit stiff at first, but has softened up nicely.

I wish I could. That is going to take time and some convincing of my wife to get. However, I do not want a wool kilt for the summers here. That would be to hot. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the help! I do want to stick with tartan kilts, however. I can't really justify wearing a kilt to work without a taratan (my darn principle married someone from the UK and knows whats going on)

That may be, but different weights from different mills affect the feel of the wool. My 18 oz Robertson Red (unknown mill) is softer than my 18 oz House of Edgar Hunting Stewart, but neither is as comfortable as my 16 oz Locharron Sackett. And there's also the fabric run itself to consider - I have four kilts made Marton Mills PV, all the same weight - but each one has a slightly different feel to it.

I'm one of those that prefer the feel of PV to acrylic. Other than one well-worn, well-washed acrylic winter hat, acrylic feels itchy to me.

For me, my most comfortable kilts (it's a tie) are my 6 yd Robertson Red PV, my 8 yd Robertson Red 16 oz, and my 4 yd Sackett 16 oz box pleat.

In your case, I would get a USAKilt, wash it a few times (without fabric softener - you lose the coating otherwise) to soften it up, and get to wearing it.

13 oz wool is a dream to wear. 16 oz wool is ruggedly bullet proof but not quite as forgiving as the lighter weight. I can only imagine what a 22 oz military fabric must feel like...

To me, most wool itches, even just a little. For softness and comfort, in my tartan kilts, I think the acrylic SWK Standards can't be beat.

I wish I had a kilt store somewhere in the Salt Lake city area. It would be much easier to try on a kilt rather than hope for the best.
