I like the look with the "belt." It should hold it up a bit better.

Looks like at least the green and blue overcheck on the red background, but I don't recognize it either.

I would remove the hip strap, too. It just doesn't "look" right, mixing two different straps. IMHO

Having made a kilt with a "regimental strap" (Hunting Stewart in the Gallery), my recommendation is leave the buckle as it is, replace the belt/strap with one that is long enough, and remove the hip strap and buckle. For the new strap, contact Cavscout at http://www.oconeeleatherworks.com/ - he should be able to whip something up for you if you don't want to make the belt yourself.
Thanks for the link. I have to see what I can afford right now. After buying two kilts, jackets and bunch of other stuff, I can't spend $50 on a belt...

It looks like a Matheson "Modern Red," but I can't be sure. Colors in photos don't always hold true.

Find a regular belt of the right length and width at a thrift store and use that if you are pressed for funds right now.

That is exactly what I did just yesterday. I found a very nice old brown leather belt from a second hand shop (price whopping $3!). I cut a long enough piece from it and replaced the old belt with it. I removed the old hip strap as well, because it wasn't really doing anything. Now, I can just barely hold a needle and thread, but I think the new belt works pretty nicely. Also, I love the color of the belt. I think the brown belt goes way better with the colors of the tartan than the old black one did. And what's most important: now I can wear my beautiful new kilt!
Thank you everyone for the advice!
