I'd stick with the polo shirts and wear a more casual standard black shoe. The jacobite shirts are a bit "costumy" in the setting you are attending I feel. Also, the waist plate style buckle is more formal looking to me than a polo shirt. One last opinion, nickel or silver accessories like the sporran chins and waist plate buckle are very formal to my eye. I'd find a more casual roller buckle belt and a pair of sporran hangers that have a bit less "bling" to them to fit the casual appearance of the rest of the outfit.
Have a great time at the event!

Be prepared, as you might very well be the most casual dressed lad there, but that isn't a bad thing. People tend to overdress with the kilt. So, you'll be casual, so you'll have an excuse to act casual!
Enjoy the event, take pics, and post them!
Bright white?!?!?!?!? They are CREAM!!! lol...
I am hoping to NOT overdress as I have no clue if ANYONE else will even be kilted. I am going to this workshop alone and figured going kilted will be enough of a conversation starter as anything.

I too go along with McMurdo, just about everything else would be ok with me.
Only I like the Jacobite shirts. I have one in a silk like material, very formal looking with large crinkle brass buttons and wide foldover cuffs. Great for cocktails Hour etc.

All of t he combinations look good to me, I'd just....as several have said before...change out of the brogues for anything less dressy than jacket-and-tie, or maybe waistcoat-and-tie..

For shoes I wear either hiking boots, colored kilts hose if the shirt is a pullover or polo, regular socks scrunched down with t-shirt or tank top. With a polo or a nice buttondown shirt I wear colored kilt hose and solid black golf shoes with the spikes removed, they are made for walking and waterproof to boot.

Having not read the rest of the advice, I'd say ditch the ghillie brogues. They are the equivelant of tuxedo shoes, and look every bit as rediculous with a t shirt as tuxedo shoes would. Otherwise, I'd say you look fine. (I personally wear my Jacobite shirt strictly as costume wear- but to each his own on that sort of thing.)

Another piece of advice- remember that the kilt is just another article of clothing. Wear whatever you would wear with a pair of jeans. Don't make a big thing out of it. I see threads with people agonizing over wearing sandals or the wrong type of windbreaker. It's not a costume. If you would wear your London Fog trench coat with a pair of jeans, then yes, you can wear it with your kilt. Relax a little about the whole thing. I wear mine with my work boots and an Iron Maiden t shirt, and it looks just fine. If you wear your kilt as if it's a costume, you will be percieved as wearing a costume.
And by the way- 2 things that struck me that I really like- you're wearing a saffron shadow tartan kilt (I love mine!!) and the sporran is very good looing. I really like black and navy blue with saffron.

I can totally appreciate what you're saying... but here's the thing I didn't mention earlier ... Other than being in uniform, Tartan Day and this workshop will be the first times being kilted. I don't mean to make a big deal out of it... just don't want to look like a poser, if that makes any sense... Kinda of like the guitarist who goes to buy a $4k Gibson Les Paul to learn on... granted it should be "to each his own" but I want to look like I belong in a kilt and just not not like I am wearing one for the first time.

Not fond of ghillie shirts. Ditch the ghillie brogues for anything less than at least somewhat dressy occasions. Also not fond of boots with kilts, personally, but that is a "my style" thing. But you are the one dressing yourself, and if you like it and think it is appropriate time and place for what you are wearing, go for it. It's your style, after all.
