Well I had just crossed an outdoor courtyard, between the lobby and the costume shop, so I didn't type it, either.

And here I thought you had to spin around 3 times, spit over your left shoulder, say "Angels and ministers of grace defend us," go outside, run around the theater 3 times, say "MacBeth, MacBeth, MacBeth;" and er, umm, something. I always wondered, though, whether the spinning and circling should be widdershins...

Guys, if you're not inside a theater, it's OK to name the play.
And kilts would be incredibly, blatantly anachronistic---but fun. And the 4 patrons who knew they were anachronistic would think you were ignorant, unless you got a licensed dramaturge to write them a long essay about it. But fun.
As the son of a former Shakespearean actor, I was just going to add that about not naming the play inside a theatre.
And for a blatantly anachronistic, but fun take on "the Scottish play" (sorry, old habits die hard!), take a look at Orson Welles' 1948 version -- my Dad's favourite version.

And now I'm off to Great Birnam Wood...

Any where near a theater and comunicating the scottish play's name is considered saying it in my book. As for saying it , I don't take a chance. And I agree if you are awake you are more thank likey working on something FOR the theater. You never do theater you ARE theater. So say the nuts I hang out with anyway. Though these are the same people who say I've been around too much contact cement because I actually LIKE doing costumes at their theater.

Yes Patternreview.com. No one else on there had ever heard of an X-Kilt.
I am the resident melodrama costumer at a local theater. I work a day job but my heart is with the theater. I love it because where else can you play dress us with real people.
BTW Chas, is there any way you could send good meat pies my way? Or even good fish and chips? I spent a year in NZ studying costuming and got the taste for real british food. Since coming back to TX good brit food is seriously lacking.
