I wear them a lot, usually with a Marine Corps EGA as a flash.

Personally not a big fan of them outside of military garb (due to having to wear one in the stupid north island heat), but the ones Jamie has shown look good.

On a hat search recently (I love hats), I found a very cool blog by a guy in New Zealand who is a beret freak.
Ah the interwebsnet, you can find anything here, not many kiwis wear berets, as the beanie is far more efficient at keeping your head and ears warm as well, come to think of it, can't recall the last time I saw someone wear one...wait, no thats a lie, Waipu H' Games...there was a dood wearing one there, in the middle of summer no less...(I think his lift may not of gone to the top floor, if ya catch my drift)

Guilty - I have a whole array of berets crocheted by my own hand and some of them have even been felted, plus I have a few shop bought ones.

I find they are easy to carry and wear, and are my headgear of second choice after my Tilley hat, when the sun doesn't shine.

Back in the day (1980's) I use to wear a black beret all the time. It was a common item worn by members of a rather large motorcycle cub that I use to ride with.

During the 90's I use to wear a "Roger's Rangers" green beret, converted into a clan bonnet (I'll add image later...photobucket is off-line for maintenance ).

Haven't worn one in years, unless you count a Balmoral

At risk of throwing the thread off on a tangent about what is "traditional" headwear, I know that a beret is not traditional highland headwear, but since I'm not a big fan of toories, I personally prefer the look of a beret (or caubeen) to the balmoral or glengarry for casual wear. For a dressier affair, I think it would be best to stick to convention and would go with the balmoral, toories be damned! (Glengarries would be another perfectly fine choice, of course, but not for me.)

This would just be my personal preference, and that said, I'm generally not big on headwear anyway....

So I take it you are pushing for an Xmarks tam or glengarry next

I pretty much wear a beret of some sort or the other any time I'm not in the house. People who have known me for years don't recognize me without it.

I also wear some medieval-style hat, a forerunner to the beret in the warmest of weather. It is a MUCH lighter fabric.
