The kilt is a black stewart.
I tried the different hose, matching the color to the shirt or sweater I had on with it. Red sweater/ red hose. Gray w/ gray ect.
Ultimately, it seems having black would go with everything as a stand by, until I can expand my selections with some hose of higher quality.

To my ex army mind, scunched down hose just looks downright scruffy.

Jock,
So would you wear hose up with boots? or just avoid boots? Being new to this (kilting) I want to do it the "right " way. I tend to lean towards traditional in most things.
Thanks,
Joe

Always hose up, on the rare occasion that I wear boots with the kilt. Remember, the Jocks going over the top in WW1 had their hose up and I am not at all sure that the RSM would accept that minor little detail of a battle, as a valid excuse for your hose to be anything other than, hose up!

I have done both and really it depends on the situation. I know, that wasn't much help, but honestly I say do whatever you think looks best with the rest of the outfit.

I'm with Jock on this one. Further, I never use flashes with boots for the same reason...just doesn't seem right.
As a counterpoint, a major faux pas is to wear boots and flashes, and scrunch them down. I see this all-too-frequently at games, and it never ceases to amaze me.

I wear my hose up no matter what's on my feet. Partly because I can't stand the feel of my socks scrunched down. I'll even wear flashes with them (but probably not traditional garter ties).
I've tried the look with scrunched down socks, but (for me at least) it just looks bad. I have skinny bird legs, apparently, and it throws off the proportions with that much leg showing. But I have seen other guys with muscular calves who look OK doing it.
