That is one fine tartan, CMcG. It almost makes me wish I had some Irish blood to justify wearing it!

I respect anyone's creative efforts. Takes b@lls to throw ones' creativity to the masses...so congrats! I can count on one hand how many things I've done that reasonable people would consider creatively worthwhile.
That being said, the tartan is a tad "dressy" for me. To much white for me. Looks like the lassies could be dancing in it.

Yesterday I got political because I was recovering from the news of a double whammy: a RIRA bombing in Ulster plus a local visit from the political wing of the 'other' IRA who are on a recruiting tour in my area (and, as usually happens, are being feted by the local media). So, now I want to say that it is a very handsome tartan and one that any person on the island could wear proudly.

Thanks Canuck. As for people on the Emerald Isle wearing it, that's not too likely... apparently kilt wearing in Ireland is mostly limited to pipe bands and Irish dancing. And the Irish in Ireland tend to wear solid saffron or green. See this article written by two prominent members of Xmarks regarding the history of the Irish kilt:
http://www.scottishtartans.org/irish_kilts.htm
That's why I named it the New World Irish tartan. It's the Irish diaspora that has maintained wearing the kilt as a symbol of Gaelic identity, as proposed by Patrick Pearse in 1900.

MacOibicin, thanks for framing your constructive criticism so politely. My personal favourites of the tartans I designed for this contest were the variations on black and shades of green, as shown in post #11. While I don't think the winning design would really pass for a dress or dancing tartan, it nonetheless has a significant amount of white... not as much as the Saint Patrick tartan though!

Well, in South Africa not that much notice is taken of St Paddy’s Day. I once went to a St Patrick’s Day dance at the local RC parish hall (three decades or so ago), but there are no parades or anything of that kind.

Mike, I concur with Colin, what a pity there's no St. Paddy's Day celebration in SA. Hmm, okay, maybe you can start a big parade!! LOL!
