    Smile NEW universal Irish tartan

I'm proud to report that my New World Irish tartan is now officially registered:
    http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...aspx?ref=10281

This was my first attempt at designing a tartan and I took the project on because The Frugal Corner was having a contest. I used the online Croft Weaver tartan design software from the Scottish Tartans Authority.

Originally, I was working with about 7 different ideas and made several variations of each. Mark from the Frugal Corner gave me some very helpful feedback and ended up selecting the following tartan as the winner. My prize is that he registered it in my name and will make me a kilt using the new tartan. Let the jonesing begin!

It is based on the threadcount of another tartan. Can you guess what one?

The symbolism is that it features the green, white and orange of the Irish flag which I interpreted as: green for the Republic of Ireland; orange for Northern Ireland; and white for peace between them. The additional black bands represent the many emigrants of Irish descent around the world.

It can be worn by anyone of Irish descent or affiliation. There are no restrictions except people are supposed to ask for permission before weaving. I believe the Frugal Corner will eventually be selling kilts in the New World Irish tartan, though I don't have anything to do with that...

    Cool, eh?

Not that you can ever win with the Irish, but I have a feeling there's too much orange for some, and not enough orange for others.

Congratulations, sir! That is a beautiful design and joins the other Irish tartans http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/qRe...chString=irish

I have a kilt in Irish National, but I believe I prefer your design.

It reminds me of the St. Patrick tartan.

    Congratulations.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
