Here you can see the contrast in military kilts between those worn by the Black Watch and those worn by the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

Note that the blue is equally dark in both; only the green is a lighter shade in the Argyll's kilts.
For so-called Campbell tartan both the blue and the green are lighter.
Congratulations on your kilt!
What is a "semi-trad" kilt? I've only owned and worn traditional handsewn kiltweight tartan wool 7 to 9 yard kilts.

Woodsman,
You're right, I 'm on a roll!!
Whidbey78,
I know IB inside out, I grew up there and graduated from Mar Vista in 1977!! I'm a beach rat from a long way back!
OC Richard,
Thanks for the pics and the info. on the different on the Campbell tartan designs. I keep learning more all the time and I really getting the different historical angles.
As far as the Semi-Trad kilt is made from man-made material, PV, I think is what they call it. In most other respects it is made like a traditional kilt.

When I was stationed in SD, I used to LOVE to go to old town and there was this place that served full yards of beer. My mates and I would sit in front of the picture window and drink them while the tourists stared. lol I'd call my mrs. and tell her I was stopping off for a beer with the guys and order one of those. Ah, good memories to be sure!
Congrats on you ordering your first one. Life is about to take a really good turn for you!
