opinions on this jacket on eBay?

That is awful. Aside from the obviously hideous suede patches it's pure 70's and the lapels are gastly... Armstrongs do some nice stuff from time to time. This isn't one of them.

I'm also not a fan of the shoulder patches but, as MacLowlife has written, they would probably be easy to remove.

In terms of the cut, this jacket is short enough in the waist to be worn with the kilt and the front is sufficiently rounded to make room for a sporran. The seller mentions this in the write-up as well.

As for the material, I'm a fan of the weight and quality of Harris Tweed. I probably wouldn't go for a "rust" coloured jacket but that's just a question of personal taste.

Personally, a shooting jacket just does not look right with the patches on both shoulders. In my mind, if you have the money for a shooting jacket, you have it custom made. If it is custom made, you only have the patch on the shoulder the butt of the stock rests on. To have patches on both shoulders, to my eye, looks tacky. In this case, it totally ruins the jacket. No matter how nice the material, it loses that custom look and then looks mass produced. Just my view of it anyway.
