I was going to head over to Gourock but the weather was atrocious on Saturday morning although it was'nt too bad in the afternoon, again some great photos with the Firth of Clyde as backcloth.
I hope the new casual uniform does not catch on, there is no glamour in it and makes the Glenrothes band look ordinary. would they ever win a competiton dressed like that - shame on them

Great pics with all those fantastic looking pipe bands. Not at all sure about that non kilted band. Yes I am sure... don't like it! Pipes and kilts were made for each other.

Great pics Alex. I hope to attend some of these games one day. We are a group in the Caledonian Society of Norway that are working on establishing a Highland Game in Norway. perhaps we should have a study tour to Scotland.

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing that with us!
So Alex- I do have a question for you. There is another board I get onto where the question came up as to weather or not a Renaissance Festival costume is appropriate attire for the Highland games. I said no, it's a little rediculous and out of place. I was then berated for being extremely rude. And the more I tried to explain that the Games are not a fantasy event, but are in fact a cultural event, the more angry I made the person in question! What do you, as a native Scot who attends these events, think of the idea of patrons going in costume? How many pirates do you see at your games in Scotland? Is it something that in your view is appropriate and acceptable?

Great photos of the Gourock Highland games. Made me homesick seeing the beautiful River Clyde. I grew up right next door in Greenock, now live in Southern California but will never tire of looking at photos of the Clyde.

Great pictures, Alex. That's the first time I've seen a pipe & drum band performing in trousers.

Well I did see a Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the games yesterday but fancy costumes are by no means common, nor would we have pirates at a highland games. We do have separate Ren Faire events in Scotland at which historical costumes are worn.
