San Antonio Highland Games 2011
This past weekend, April 1 - 3, the San Antonio Highland Games and Celtic Music Festival was conducted at the Helotes Fair Grounds just northwest of San Antonio.
Friday evening was the Tartan Day commemoration at the Alamo, and the games began in earnest on Saturday morning.
L to R: Tobus, ShaunMaxwell, Jack Daw and The Sp8
The San Antonio Games place an emphasis on athletics, and there were some great competitors, and lots of good photo opportunities... Here are a couple of images:
There was music of all types...
... including Seven Nations!
And the obligatory family photos...
My girls, Molly and Kim:
Molly dirty, sweaty and climbing trees:
And me and my girl:
The festival was, I think, a great success with relatively mild weather and a large crowd.
I especially enjoyed the chance to visit with Toby, Steve and Tony, and was only sorry that we weren't able to hang out a bit longer.
Cheers,
SM

Great photos Shaun, I'll make that event one of these days!
Hey, do you know who the young lady with the fiddle is? She seems familiar to me...
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

Thanks for the pics Shaun. Family, friends, music, games, looks like you, the family and the other XMarkers had a great day. Sure are some big boys tossing things around in those photos

Great pictures! I recognize that second athlete (throwing the ball), he's from Oklahoma City and was the festival coordinator here in March! Looks like a great festival and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the pics, Shaun! We had great weather that weekend, as is the case almost every year for the SAHG. I was lucky in that my tent was close to the athletic field and received lots of visitors including my XMarx buds.

Thanks for the pics, Shaun! I agree, that last picture of you walking with your daughter is super cool. That's the kind of picture you should frame and put up in the house. Very artistic. Is your wife a photographer by trade?
It was indeed a great weekend with great weather. I'm glad I got to visit with all you guys again. If I don't get a chance to see you before then, I hope to see you at Salado in November.

Thanks, guys! I'll be sure to pass your favorable comments along to my wife.
She took the one of Molly and me walking away and the XMarks group photo. She's a former band director and a current stay-at-home mom who enjoys taking photos. I took the rest of the photos while she wrangled our girl!
I got a few really good shots of the big guy with the shaved head and tatoos. He looks the part of the Highland games competitor!
And Zardoz, no, I don't know the name of the young fiddler. She was a teenager who was performing over by the childrens play area...
