Kiltless in Seattle

I Have made 4 kilt now. the 1st one did not turn out all that well- I use it for fishing, chores, and the like. but the rest turned out really nice. I suggest making a practice kilt out of cheap wool material before making a posible mistake with expensive tartan...

Welcome from Des Moines, (yes you will know there's one in Washington too). I would agree that a test run is a very good idea. I made mine out of plain fabric but with the pleat depth I calculated for the tartan fabric lurking in the wings. I also heartily recommend the book "The Art of Kiltmaking." I found its instructions very clear. Best wishes.

Thanks so much for the advice, I am reading that book right now. I've found an inexpensive flannel tartan material with twill lines, so I'm thinking it will be the closest facsimile.

at least you werent wearing your kilt in Seattle and then looked down and suddenly found yourself without it!
