Re: St. Patty's Day in Savannah
I have fond memories of these parades from the years I was stationed at near-by Ft. Stewart. The hours of madness that would follow on River Street! Anyone recall the old "Night Flight Cafe"...?

If you're going, keep an eye out for the US Air Force Pipe Band. The Pipe Sergeant is our daughter, who is a Captain in the Air Force (a research physicist) and an augmentee with the pipe band! In the photo below, she's the piper above right of the base drum.

Some folks use it, but not all of us.
We would only ever use Paddy, as Patty is a girl's name. Do American's called Patrick shorten their names to Patty as well?
None that I know. Most Patricks use either Patrick or Pat.

Aye, a lotof people would shorten it to Pat (although this tends to be in older generations). I can't think of any Patrick's I know who aren't called Paddy in some circumstances, most are at least called it by their friends.
Might be just a cultural difference I guess.

I will not be able to make it to Savannah for the Ol' Saint Pat's day or even Saint Paddy's evening . But I will be there in May for the Savannah Highland games. Have fun
