May 17 is...
On May 17, 1845 A patent for the rubber band was granted to Stephen Perry of London, England. (Perry owned the manufacturing company Messers Perry and Co.) a noted supplier of rubber bands to kiltmakers and wearers alike. Is this not reason enough to strap on that kilt and celebrate the day?!
(I know Bear is waiting for "Velcro" day, but he'll just have to wait.)
