Cameron of Erracht was actually the ONLY tartan to be worn as a US military kilt. during the Civil War the 78th and 79th New York Volunteer Militia regiments wore kilts in the Cameron tartan.
The 78th Cameron Highlanders never wore any beyond the standard federal uniform. They were really an after thought...an attempt to create a sort of Highland Brigade (In name only besides the 79th). I wish they would have pulled it off! ith:
