Yup, Blu's right.

Again. It's the weave in the material that's pulling apart and wearing thin. The chemical make-up is fine. The colors are fine. The tartans are fine. The wear is unnaturally fast for my kilts. Even the thinner wool ones are not doing this. It's that simple. I wand-wash all my kilts except for the Workman's UK.

Hey Graham, PV is an "inexpensive" alternative... not cheap!

For the record, I have not made so much as ONE poly-viscose kilt in my life.

I'll chip in just to reiterate what Bear's said about my PV kilt: I wore it 2,200 miles (not 2,700; that's the next trail!) and the only wear it has is on the back belt loops, where the back of the pack was rubbing against the loops, which were sandwiched between the pack and my belt pouch strap. I find that wear entirely reasonable: my pack was rubbing against that one spot for 12 hours a day for five months straight.

My wool kilt pills a little bit under my sporran strap (yes, strap, not chain). I'm certain that if I wore my wool kilt 2,200 miles with my sporran it would have wear there as well.

I think this is stemming from mis-communication.

Jimmy had a bad run with a weaver who provides to a kilt maker with what seems in his opinion to be less that proper made PV. As such it wore unnecasarily, and overly quickly. He thus became disenchanted with PV and made a preference choice not to wear PV anymore. His message was heard and read by Bear as saying all PV is garbage and I will never own another one. When in fact Jimmy was saying, The weaver who made my PV made it crap and I decided I am just sticking to wool by preference. However I am not discouraging you from buying a PV kilt in anyway as there are a number of useful forums on each maker and their kilts to find out how they wear, how they feel, et al. Please recognize this decision is my own and not meant to encourage or dis-courage anyone from buying anything or not buying anything. Of course I might have added flourish and summed up some parts exxagerated others.... Changed some meaning here and there... but hey what are friends for?


So if I am right this can be resolved by Jimmy doing a free commerical for Bear.

My gut pushes down on my belt, and my forward belt loops on my USAK Philabeg have worn down a bit.

Do you wear your kilt below your belly?

I'm also a large fella (kilt size 52x52x23) and don't seem to have this problem. I wear the kilt about 5 days a week. The difference? I wear the topline of the kilt around the circumference of my belly. Top of the belt buckle is just about touching the bottom of my belly button. All of my kilts now are PV (<jones>for the next couple of weeks, anyway</jones>) and really the only complaint that I have is that they fly up at any hint of a breeze.

I wear mine around my belly as well Magnus. I don't know how it's happening, I guess it's the way I walk, but the belt has rubbed the belt loops out of shape, and worn them down.

I have been told I don't walk as much as I shamble forward. I may be 5 foot 5, but I am a hulking brute. I move in sections.

I am five foot five, I wear a size 12 to 15 ring, and my fingers aint fat. My neck is as big as some peoples' waists. There are those that claim I don't have a neck... What do you think is holding my head to my shoulders? (Some say bolts) I have 14 to 16 inch biceps. Currently, my chest measures 56 inches, my waist 44 to 45 inches, and my hips at 46. 22 inch thighs, and 18 to 20 inch calves. I tip the scales currently right at 200 pounds. While I still have a slight gut, I have shed most of my excess fat. (I used to tip the scales at over 350 pounds) If I can get my self down to say, a 38 to 40 inch waist, I will be perfectly happy and will be done with shedding all my excess baggage.

And now you can see why I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me properly. They do not make comfortable clothes for shambling brutes. They do not make cookie cutter clothing for ogres. Kilts have been a Godsend for me. PV, acrylic, wool, whatever, so long as I can cover my hairy ogre **** when I go outside. I scare the public in general enough as it is.

The problem with that theory is that Jimmy has several different poly/viscose tartans from at least two different weavers.

And Jimmy is constantly giving my kilts great reviews, for which I am grateful.
Who knows why Jimmy's kilts are having unusual problems? For all I know it's the hand washing! Perhaps the lack of machine drying to tighten up the weave? I still think it has something to do with something Jimmy does differently.

Het Jimmy. Toss the Maple Leaf in the washer and dryer and see what happens, will ya?

I'm suffering from deja vu. I seem to remember daring to intimate that PV kilts dont look like proper kilts. They look flimsy and (whisper) girlie.
I'm sure for all you CDs out there they make really great cocktail dresses. Hehehehehehe....sitting back to watch the firework show.....
