Welcome Rygar,
There's a very common two word response for the self-appointed kilt police who tell you you shouldn't/can't wear a kilt.
Chances are, lack of identifiable Scottish heritage may be due to simple lack of information on your ancestors. Scotsmen got around the world a LOT.
Imagine St. Patty's day if the Irish were checking ancestral credentials before the festivities. Everyone's Irish on St. Patty's day. Everyone's Scottish in a kilt.
By their very rude intrusion you know there's no need to engage such fools. Just use the standard two word all purpose response you've probably always used and be on your way. Works wonders.
