I think wool is better but price does mean a lot. Since we are going into warmer weather (I hope) acrylic should be fine. I know some will only wear wool or wool blend but until I knit some more hose most of mine are acrylic because of cost.

I think those are really nice, but wit would be very hard to dye them.

At a pinch I have had a good deal here and there when I got extra long wool hiking socks. Very chunky but in plain colours.

    Here's hoping you find something.

I have thought of that option eventually, right now though I have to find a fairly quick (& modest priced) option. I'm really more partial to wool-blend, rather than acrylic-blend, however I found these at Scottish Lion for $22:

    Thoughts on acrylic hose?

    Thanks again

p.s. I've been on Diane's queue for a woad bonnet
I just got the final part of an order from Scottish Lion that included 4 pairs of the $22 Piper's Hose which on their website list as being acrylic, but what I got were the nice 70% wool 30%nylon ones instead----really great with a nice thick top that can be turned over about 4 times to make a nice thick roll. And the added bonus---if you can find enough stuff you want and get your order over $100 US it gets you free shipping with no customs tariffs. Yahoo. If you are a piper, or are just into pure white hose like some of us, they are the nicest white hose I have ever seen.

I'm coming late to this thread, but I would like to add my 1.46 cents worth. I always wear hose with my kilts when I go out.

I just counted my hose. I have thirty + (I don't know how many are in the wash.) My wife has been strictly schooled. She knows not to put any of my hose in the dryer. She (and I on occassion) only washes them in cold water and then hangs to dry.

The hose are pretty much devided in the following: 1/3 pure wool, 1/3 rugby sox of unknown blend, 1/3 light synthetic and light wool.

I wear the heavy wools in the winter, the light wools and synthetics in the summer and the rugby sox year-round.

There are a lot of good quality rugby sox available and a lot of junk. Given proper care good wool sox, can last a long time. The same is true for good quality rugby sox. Some of my sox are 7 years old, and still very servicable.

You do have your wife schooled
Actually around here I do my own laundry (I have my quirks about how I like my things washed &/or dried). The only other hose I have (tan colored wool-blend) I also wash cold & hang dry

    Caddy One,
do you also have the Scottish Lion's $22 Piper's Hose, and were yours also wool-blend rather than the advertised acrylic?

Early on in our marriage, we came to an agreement - I would handle all the big items and my wife would take care of everything else. I decide when we will go to war with red china and she handles all the other matters.

But in every argument, I always get the last word - - - "Yes, dear!"

Yup. Package on the last two pairs said it right on the label---70%wool. First two pairs, which were white, were not in a labelled package. But my wife, who is allergic to wool, can tell because of her aversion to handling them.
