BTW guys...plastic of any kind will at least "bead" if a spark hits it. A small area will melt, may burn through a layer, may simply harden under the contact area, or light and spread
There are bunches of flame proof plastics. Nomex and related polyamides are best known but there are others. Yes, they'll decompose if they get exposed to high enough temperature, but so will anything else.

I don't think a nomex kilt would be very practical, mind you.

OK, I have to (again) expose my ignorance: what is the jacket you're wearing in that first picture, Robert? Me WANTS one... ;)

I'm afraid it's an off the rack winter jacket I bought in a department store...

They were popular a few years back in France.

But I suppose Lady Chrystel could copy it and make one for you if she get's her head into it. I'd have to ask her first before promising anything...

Tiny--I've never needed anyhting more stout than a SWK standard--even in a Michigan Winter. Although I have been known to wear kilt-johns under my standard while rabbit hunting or hiking in very cold weather. For the price, the SWK heavies are a good deal. I'd say get one if you want to try them out--but not because you HAVE to have one for the weather. (although, it makes a great 'excuse' to get another kilt or 2 )
