    Tobus --

The photos make a difference. Boots with hose up look a lot better than I thought they would. I think it is a matter of proportion. The thick top on kilt hose balances the visual weight of the boots. To me, "scrunched" means pushed together, so maybe a longer or thicker pair of hose would look good down if they were bunched a bit at the top of the boot. I think real kilt hose would be too much pushed down, but other onger or thicker socks might work. Again, I think it is a matter of proportion or balance.

I agree, kilt hose would probably not be the best choice for the "scrunched" look. Mostly because the top turn-down portion just wouldn't do right. But long, thick socks seem to look OK on some people when scrunched. But my personal opinion is that the scrunched look seems to fare better with contemporary kilts, not with traditional kilts.

In my opinion, when kilted casual with boots, I think it's up to you hoses up or down. If it's warm then down, if it's cold then up. In my opinion there is no rules, it's what you feel is right that counts.

Yeah, I never wear my kilt hose scrunched down. I also never wear boots with my kilt... There are a lot of things that are popular that I would discourage. I've seen the "pushed down with boots" look go well on a gent... especially with an arran sweater. So check out yourself in the mirror and go with what you ultimately prefer. Both are acceptable modes of dress.

With my hiking boots, I sometimes wear my hose scrunched down and sometimes pulled up with sgian dhu and flashes. Variety is the spice of life.

As you'll find from your responses - it's up to the wearer. But, since you asked, for me always up.
