Ali, that's the best description I've ever read regarding skirt length.

Our experience with Kilted skirts is that they normally go to the knee, on average 28". It's a personal choice. Hostess Skirts however often go to your ankles. We suggest what ever you are comfortable in is the right choice.

Now I like that very much. Wear what's comfortable to you and what allows others to be comfortable with you, and you'll be just fine as to length.

Skirt length could be influenced by the temperature at the Games, as Anne alluded to earlier.
I'd say knee to mid-calf. That length will serve you well for other, non-games events. And make sure you take some pictures.

My wife dresses for the weather (very light cotton dresses if it's hot, slacks if it's cool), and then puts on a tartan sash. Whatever you choose to wear in the clan tent, dress to be comfortable.

I have to admit, I'm getting to the point where I'm more interested in sashes for myself. It will get the clan tartan point across perfectly, and I'd be able to do a lot more with it. I definitely would love to get a couple sashes for myself soon.

My wife wears what she refers to as a 'comfortable' length when working a tent. They range from just below the knee to just above--depending on the temperature. She ALWAYS looks smart and fashionable. Perhaps after 19 years I'm still a bit biased

Personally I think the longer one looks more traditional and respectful, but it is obvious that opinions vary

Are you a mullah?
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

It looks as though just about everyone has had their say here, male and female.
But for what it’s worth I would agree that skirt length depends on the wearer, and that tartan trousers or a fly plaid (or both) are also options.
I like the look of a long skirt, but a shorter skirt, straight or pleated, is equally acceptable.
When it comes to miniskirts, some women can wear them and some can’t quite carry it off.
But the crucial question to ask when miniskirts are the issue is the height of the counter. If a woman is seated on a high stool behind a high counter, there should not be a problem. But if the counter is lower (regardless whether she is seated or standing), a mini is perhaps best avoided.
