Kilted skirt question??
Hello everyone, I would like some advice about what length of a Kilted skirt would be appropriate for a lady to wear if said lady was manning or helping to man a Clan booth at the Games. Thank you, any advice is appreciated

First off to the rabble. As for your question I always prefer to see an longer skirt on a lady, no mistaking it for trying to be a kilt that way. However whatever you are comfortable in would be accepted.

Thank you I was thinking of a casual day skirt.. it is at max 29" long but I am fairly tall( 5"10) I have never manned a booth and want to be respectful(I don't know if a mini would be appropriate LOL)

The mini would definately open some eyes and while I'm sure it would be nice to look at, the longer skirt would be a little more "conservative". At the games you will most likely see the extremes from ankle length to ultra mini. The best looking ladies are, IMHO, usually toward the longer rather than the shorter. Your 29" length sounds pretty good. I'm sure that some of the ladies of XMarksTheScot will chime in on this too.

I would advise wearing what you feel comfortable in. While I really like a lady's skirt a bit shorter than you mentioned--top of the knee or a bit shorter--I don't now how you would like that. The longer length might suit you better, and I really doubt anyone else will much care as long as you don't look garish or tacky.
See this to see what length I am talking about: http://www.glengarryhats.com/skirts/..._mackenzie.php
Long or short will not be commented on negatively.

What's that saying about a lady's skirt being like a well written paragraph-- long enough to cover the subject yet short enough to keep it interesting?
But I digress...
IMHO-- there are a few things to consider in the way of being flattering. As long as the skirt hits at a skinnier part of the leg you'll look great. For example: right below the knee, or a few inches above it; ankle or floor length-- NEVER cut across the calf; and there's a magical little spot of thigh somewhere in the middle where it is the thinnest, anything higher will actually make your thighs look bigger.
I don't know, maybe you were looking for an answer in the way of cultural appropriateness? At any rate, I hope this helps in any small way. Good luck!

To my eye, the longer a lady's skirt is the more status or dignity it gives her.

The women in my family tend to wear ankle-length skirts for formal evening functions. Anything shorter than that should be appropriate to the level of formality of the Highland games; that is to say, not very formal!
