I do indeed plan on attending the Kelso festival on the 10th & 11th and would also very much enjoy a Portland kilt night sometime (put me on the list), I saw one recently this year at an indoor miniature golf course here in Portland and thought it a splendid and fun (if slightly bizarre looking in the black lights) idea.
Yes, it was rather hot here, but thing's will return to there natural rainy overcast state here very soon I hope. MacTarnahan's Brewery is an excellent establishment, if any of you by chance get the opportunity I also highly recommend The Thistle and Rose Pub here in Portland and the Highland Stillhouse in Oregon City, great spirit's and traditional Scottish food (or as close as we seem able to come here in the states). Again thank you all for the very warm welcome!
MacTarnahans food has slipped since Mac passed away. It is also noisy. The Rose and Thistle is amping up their Scottishness after letting it wain for a bit. It seems they recognize the ethnic advantage, for which we are grateful. The food is good and comforting, as is the atmosphere. Mick and Tammy at the Highland Stillhouse are wonderful. They have done such a great job. The Stillhouse should be a destination eatery for anyone considering a trip to the Portland Metro area. Also, it's a great chance to taste some rare whiskeys before you jump in a buy the entire bottle.
IMHO

A warm Scottish welcome from middle England.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

from the wooded hills ("highlands") of north central Tennessee!
We used to live in Waldport (on your coast) and visited Portland often. Nice city. Happy kilting in the great northwest (some great micro-breweries up there

Vmac, does the Rose and Thistle have a web site? I tried to google them, and only found reviews. As I usually stay at motel near the east end of the Broadway bridge when in town, I'd be interested in checking out someplace new. My last trip (in June), I had a fair scotch egg at the County Cork Public House, (NE 13th on Fremont).
Edited to add: Found the Rose and Thistle's facebook page, and they don't list a website. But have liked it, and hopefully will remember it for my next trip.

I don't think they have a website. Since you are familiar with the area, go east on Weidler. When you get to the point Weidler and Broadway combine, turn left on Broadway, and it is on the left. Almost tried the County Cork today. Will give it a try next time.
