Re: DIY Formal Jacket
Nice job, good look Z.
Upon seeing this thread I have suddenly developed great distress as I remember a few months ago promising to send you the round Harp buttons I was having replaced on my Holyrood jacket and vest, and just now discovered that those very same buttons are still in a small baggie hanging with my jacket set as yet unsent, and also that it was highly likely that you were wanting to use those buttons for this project. Please accept my sincerest apologies for failing in my promise to send the buttons, and if you still desire them I will get them off to you in the mail before week's end. I am truly sorry for failing you in this endeavor, my flatcapped friend, and can only ask for your forgiveness for any distress this may have caused you or delay in the completion of this project. I feel terrible.

Re: DIY Formal Jacket
I think this is the best of both worlds. There are times when extra bling does not improve things, but rather just makes then look cheap. Here you have a subdued elegance - just the right amount and an innovative reworking of an oft hackneyed classic.
I think this works very well.

Mark, I really like the little detail on the tails where the outside corner is turned over and buttoned.

Excellent. I'm a big fan of well thought out variations on a theme. This is a perfect example of taking an idea, attacking from a slightly different angle, and coming out with something that is different-- in a good way.
Now you have me looking for a tailcoat. I don't know if I'll ever actually use one, but I guess it couldn't hurt to have one on hand. That's what I'll tell the wife anyhow.
