I'm finishing mine up at work today, and will be wearing it as I walk out the door to go home tonight, turning my belt into a sporran strap.

Am I making to much of a fuss for my first time?
I should go for a mall in a decent neighbourhood. By all means try at all times to feel confident. Do some shopping. Ask questions. Forget about what you are wearing and you'll have a fine debut, I'm sure.
Good luck!

My first outing was walking around my neighborhood on the Northside of Chicago. Not much of a challenge - it's one of the most diverse areas of the city with more than 70 language groups represented. One day when I was kilted, I even met a guy in a lunghi (look it up) in the grocery store.
That said, one advantage of a pub is that the high bar stools are really easy to sit on while kilted. You can arrange yourself and just slide back onto the stool.
Where in middle Tennessee are you? You might find other kilties here on Xmarks to hang with. You might try a thread with the headline Middle Tennesse Kilt Outing.

I went to my parents' house first. Mom turned red. Dad grinned. The next time, my brother and I went to a comic book store. Interested looks from the patrons. Interested in a good way.

If all the replies thus far seem boring and mundane, then a visit to a redneck bar (kilted of course) is in order. ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif) ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Dan McGuiness, Sunday evening about 6 PM on the Patio (in closed for the winter) - I go about once or twice a month always wear one of my kilts. Sometimes I have been the only one, and then there are times when there are 10+

[QUOTE=Southern Breeze;670124]What would be a good first time place to go kilted? Rather simply really - ANYWHERE! QUOTE]
I agree. I've never had a negative comment or problem. I would never expect one. I get the usual from friends at parties or such - What clan? Is it comfortable? What do you have on under there? Nice skirt. ....
Never a comment or issue from anyone unknown to me. Just the usual glances. Go for it and have fun.

The first time I wore a kilt out was my Sport Kilt (in Buchanan) over to a friend's house. I've worn it to friend's houses several times since then but not out in public. The first time in public in a kilt was when my AmeriKilt arrived. I wore it to my dentist office, a friends house, and then to the grocery store and a Starbucks. At the office and stores no one said anything to me. They all looked, but no said a word.
