There is a Scottish Bakery about 10 minutes away I can get a haggis from anytime I'd like, and the Fergus Highland Games is this weekend, it'll be haggis on a bun for lunch that's for sure.

If they're talking about Haggis on the news, war must be over, disease cured, and the white hose issues agreed upon by all.

This matter has risen to the level of an Op Ed piece in the New York Times and is currently one of the most e-mailed stories.

I don't know where it originated. When I hear haggis, I think Scotland! It's been that way since I was a kid watching the episode of Scooby Doo when the gang was in Scotland chasing a ghost, or maybe it was Nessie, I'm a little fuzzy on the details. That is good enough for me.

Now, for more important matters, I have not yet had the opportunity to sample the dish. Any suggestions?

I read that this weekend. Very well written! The best line:

Of course there was no published Scottish recipe for haggis before then, for the simple reason that it would have been quite unnecessary for Scots to publish a recipe for something that everybody in Scotland knew how to make. Why state the obvious? It’s as simple as that.

Simple, really: the Scots dinnae need a book to tell 'em how to cook.

I expect people in a lot of countries took a sheeps liver, lungs and heart, and mixed them with a lot of suet fat and oatmeal then stuffed it all in a sheeps stomach and boiled it for dinner, but it took the Scots to make it famous, and make it famous they did, thats why it is readily available everywhere today.

We all have our crosses to bear Jock Scot

Here they say "As American as apple pie." There is an English apple pie recipe dated 100 years before Columbus discovered the Americas. Every country where apples are indigenous will have some sort of traditional apple pie recipe. That doesn't make it any less of an American traditional food.

In the UK tea is a traditional drink but we don't grow it, we import it from Asia and the Asians taught us how to make a drink with it. It is still a UK traditional drink.

SO HAGGIS IS YOURS SCOTLAND. I for one am glad that the English recipe didn't become traditional or I may have been brought up on it.

Well, what goes around comes around...

Apparently Chicken Tikka Masala was invented in Scotland (but designed for India).
