Tough journey. I feel for him. Life, sometimes, isn't fair. I hope and pray he can accept this. The physical comeback will probably be easier than the mental. Once he gets past the mental, he can get on with life. Easier said than done, I know. Best of wishes going his way!!

Fred is home finally!
Fred came home from the hospital this past Thursday. I had printed out all your kind wishes and given them to him several weeks ago and they meant a lot to him. Thank you all.
Dawn, his wife, has to drive him on for therapy Mon.-Thurs. every week for the next several months, but he is doing better. Being home has already made an improvement in him. His kids are glad to have him back, too.
We carried him and his wheelchair up the steps and into church this past Sunday morning, he was a little skittish,. being out of control of where he was goiong and on steps, but he said it was good to be out of bed and out of the house for a bit.

Good to hear Fred is up and about, he sounds like a fighter. Im glad he appreciated peoples thoughts and prayers and fair play to you for suggesting to print them for him. Tell him we are all still thinking of him. Best wishes, The Thing.

Understatement of the century. I've been accused of being a little rough around the edges and Fred makes me look like a choir boy.
I don't get a chance to see him during the week anymore, because I'm at work when he gets home from therapy, but I'll be seeing him again this weekend. Between him being an ornery cuss and Dawn kicking him in the @@@ when he gets complacent, I thnk he'll turn out alright in time.

A whole lot of late to the party on this one but please let Fred, Dawn and the family know that there are more prayers for a speedy recovery and to keep up with the therapy. I had the chance to meet Chief Carl Brashear who was the Navy's first amputee diver very late in his life and that man was also a fighter. Sounds as if Fred and Carl might have hit it off had they met.

Fred now has a prosthesis
Fred has been fitted for a prosthesis, a week ago. He is still using the wheelchair somewhat, as his leg gets used to bearing his weight somewhere other than his foot. That and a mild case of the wobbles. The docs expect him to be right as rain in a month or two, with minimal mobility issues.
There was a slight upset last Tuesday, though. They were coming home from therapy and were sideswiped on the passenger side of their car. This makes it a bit hard for Fred to get in and out, as he now has to crawl over from the drivers' side to get in, as he still cannot drive. Nobody was hurt, though. That's far more important.
