Re: Attn: Kilted Runners
Hey, GGGP:
If you are looking for an event where "wearing the kilt is encouraged," check out this link:
http://www.promotionevents.com/GreatKilted/Course.htm
It's The Great Kilted Run and it's a 5K in Seattle each year. In 2012, it's going to be in mid-August. The link has a bunch of photos and there is a beer garden at the finish. Sponsored by a local brewer who offers one brew called the "Kilt Lifter." How can you go wrong?

Re: Attn: Kilted Runners
GGGP I run in one all the time now, dont worry everybody will love it.
If you get into running kilted have a look at the Sport Kilt Hiking kilt definately by far the best option, probably the best piece of running clothing I own to be honest. Mind you I think if I was a girl I'd get it a bit shorter than the standard length.
Good luck and run strong.

Re: Attn: Kilted Runners
I have done several runs in a kilt, the first times in a Original Sportkilt - in California where it was cooler and in Texas when it was hot. Both went OK, but more recently I have run in the microfiber "Hiking Kilt," certainly the best for hot weather races. However, if it came down to a serious competetitive event, I'd go for running shorts and slip into a kilt to pick up my award. The best of both worlds.

Re: Attn: Kilted Runners
Welllllllllll,
I ran kilted.
.........and
I was the only one.
Out of, like, 2500 people. My city is VERY uncreative.
But there were some sequined cheerleading skirts. So good for them.
It was chilly Sat morning (and yes, by chilly I mean 56 degrees F ), the wool felt good.
I don't have an action shot yet, waiting on the website to post 'em.

I like it much better than "Schlumpadinka"

Re: Attn: Kilted Runners
If you were the only one in a kilt out of 2500, that is not at all unusual. Since I had been contributing to this discussion, I decided to put my tartan where my mouth was and wore a kilt for a 10 mile training run this past weekend. Running along the shores of one of Texas' highland lochs, I was in the midst of hundreds and hundreds of runners. No comments, no jestures, no unusual looks, and no one else in a kilt. If you ran the same day, there were probably only 2 of us in the entire country doing this. Glad to have you along.
Would you do it again? Any suggestions for the shy runners?

I was the third then. Sunday's trail run of approx 7 miles single track rocky trail. This is my usually training grounds for trail runs of 6-15 miles. Wonderful upper 40's, good footing and only a couple groups hiking who were nice enough to control their dogs and move over for me. So guess there were 3 of us in the country running kilted this weekend. BTW were you on Lock Town Lake running? Ive always enjoyed running in Austin. And Congrats GGGP for donning the kilt and running. Great job.......
