Well said, Robbie!
I would add that it is a fair portion of we kilt wearers that are laden with the self-appointed title of "different." Until each guy comes to fully believe that kilts are garments, not costumes, that it is just as normal to wear kilts as pants, then that guy is not going to be confident in kilts.
I often forget I'm wearing a kilt and wonder why people are reacting the way they do.
I wrote "Kilts are garments, not costumes!" for my web site just over a year ago. I'm still learning things about that simple phrase.

I have not been wearing a kilt long, but it has quickly become part of my normal apparel. When I put on jeans it seems strange and I often am suprised when some asks me about my kilt.

I haven't worn pants since, I think, early March, for anything. I'm so used to it now I don't even think about it. It's gotten to the point when someone comments on it I'm a bit surprised. It is fun when it is commented on though.

I agree with Bubba. I started wearing kilts while going through a "Mid 20's Crisis"... did you know there was such a thing? I wanted to prove to myself that I didn't give a "hoot" what anyone else thought of me or my clothing choices. When my 2 old partners saw me in a kilt (before we started USAKilts), they both decided to start wearing them. We all started going out "kilted up" and eventually started a company based on our love of "Freeballin". Now, I hardly ever wear underwear and I like it that way.

Many of us grew up wearing trousers, and converted to kilts quite recently, it seems. I think it's interesting that most of us didn't realize how uncomfortable our pants were until we shed them for our kilts. How is it that we got stuck wearing trousers most of our lives without realizing any alternatives? Yeah, I know, it's because most of us weren't raised in Scotland. But still, how can millions of men in this world be content with wearing the pants that they wear? Ever since I got my first kilt, I've somehow felt the need to enlighten my fellow men and introduce them to the world of kilts. Most of them don't take me too seriously. Oh well, lots of great people have had similar reactions from the general public.

Pants are what we grow up with. Our parents pretty much conditioned us to pants because that's what they grew up with and what they believed was the only acceptable thing for boys to wear. For years most of us accepted that without question. I'm glad I know better now.

My daughter came home with a comment today. The young man she casually dates has a neighbor who saw me in a kilt several weeks ago. "There's some crazy guy around here who wears a kilt", was the remark. I guess I'm getting noticed after all. :o

I think we are all freespirits that just happen to wear kilts! "They laugh at me because I'm different; I laugh at then because they are all the same!"
I've survived DAMN near everything
