    Hi Daz,

I know exactly where you are coming from and, in fact, I agree with you . Normally when explaining my roots I leave out the word "only" altogether, but in this case I was stressing to Dave my minimal Scottish connection with regard to my 'right' to wear the kilt.

In all honesty, I am far more proud of the comparitively small amount of Scottish blood in my veins (and arteries) than of the larger proportion of the English stuff!!

Hello Dave from North East England. I live in Stockton on Tees. I have just come back from 2 days in Manchester where I wore the kilt around town without so much as a comment from the residents. I have worn the kilt in Leeds a number of times without comment, and many other local towns , too. I now wear the kilt every day and night when not working.

Dave, you don't tell us what your surname is. If you can I'll look it up in 'Scots Kith and Kin' and give you some background info.

Recent genetic research shows that the Normans, Vikings, Angles, Saxons and Danes contributed much less to the British genetic gene pool than had previously been thought. Celtic genes were found to be much greater. So, it could be argued that most of those who think of themselves as English ("Angles") really aren't, at least not genetically. See, e.g., Brian Syke's "Blood of the Isles," at http://www.bloodoftheisles.net/index.html

Of course culture is a different story.

Hi Robertson, thanks for putting up with us at Ferintosh we enjoyed it apart from the weather, you and the other guests all looked very smart in your kilts and it got me interested and Emma got me interested in Robert Burns and Scottish history, i learnt up there that Robert the Bruce was a norman and not a proper Scot which was a bit of a downer, ive also sent off for cd's of Scocha,Saor Patrol and Albenacch youve a lot to answer for.
