When I first came to the States, folk would say; "Hi, my name's George & I'm part French, Italian & Cherokee" (???) etc. (Who asked???)
I always responded; "Well, EVERYONE seems to have raided Britain at one time or another, so I guess I'm a bit of EVERYTHING! But back home we're all just Australians".

Wow. I'm sooooo sorry you met folks like that here.
How irritating.
Reminds me of a recent festival I attended. Someone came up to me (I don't remember if I was in my kilt or my cassock) and asked,
"So, what do you think of the crown."
I answered, almost flabergasted,
"I don't think anything about the crown. I'm American."

Crown Peppermints were delicious.
(people ask ME that question too; Answer; 'Well, actually, I don't".)

I've met many people that use Greek and Othodox interchangeably. Russian, Antiochan, Romanian, it doesn't matter... if it's Orthodox, it's Greek.

Yeah, I freak out alot of ethnic clergy who are trying to figure out what "people" I belong to.
Finally one said, "Anglo-Saxon!"
I said close enough.

I know. When I go to pan-Orthodox gatherings, people couldn't fathom that I was *gasp!* an American convert! Of course, the beard just makes me look more Slavic, so usually they assume I'm either Romanian or Russian.

I would use the Clergy tartan.
If you wanted to get an officially Catholic tartan, I would start with Scotland's two archbishops: His Eminence Keith Patrick Cardinal O'Brien (Archbishop of St. Andrews and Edinburgh), and His Excellency Mario Joseph Conti (Archbishop of Glasgow).
Good luck!

Maybe we could get King Francis II to help get an official Roman Catholic kilt! Francis II
