Catholic Tartan

Hi, Has anyone ever seen or heard of a Catholic tartan? I've seen some with Presbyterian and Episcopal ties, but never Catholic. Thanks.

Good Question. I couldn't find one registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority. And I couldn't find one on here. Oh well. I believe Notre Dame has a pipeband. Maybe whatever tartan they wear could be expanded to encompass all Catholics.

At this point I do not think that such exists. I have looked as well.Maybe if the next pope is a Scot we can get that done

haven't seen a Catholic tartan, but there is a CLERGY tartan.

You could also KIND OF consider Royal Stewart tartan as "Catholic" in the fact that the Stewarts were the Catholic Monarchs of Scotland.

It would have to be "kind of" given the later protestant Stewart monarchs.

Where could such an initiative for a specific tartan start? Interested Catholic kilties petitioning the Pope? Or would it start by being raised with the Scottish Bishops and Cardinal?

"Clergy' tartan is also known as 'Priest'.
And the last Catholic Royal Stewart is Buried in St. Peter's Basillica in Rome. SO I guess either would count.

James II and his ilk were, but his grandfather, father and brother were Anglicans.

Or the Knights of St. Columba, the Scottish version of the Knights of Columbus.

I understand that not all of these are necessarily connected with the Catholic Church, but they at least provide a starting point. Perhaps Matt Newsome could be persuaded to weigh in. His theological and scholarly leanings might make him the perfect resource...
