Well, I went to go out today in my kilt. But I had to stop we had rain with 50 to 60 mile an hour winds. So I didn't think it would be a good idea to go. But I have made my mind up to go first thing in the morning and go shopping. I am going where I want to go, when I want to go and if anyone makes a smart*** remark I will just smile and keep on walking with my head held high and standing tall and proud. I am in NW Alabama so there not much to do as far as the Celtic community. So thats why I am just going to run my errands and do a little shopping. Thank for all the great post and you tips and help. I would have never thought that I would have been that nervice about going out in a kilt. In my younger days it wouldn't have buged me this much.

I was nervous at first when I wore my kilt the first time. Believe it or not, I wore mine to my office at my old job as my first 'outing'... I fortunately had very cool coworkers there (we were all around the same age) and one of them was very into Celtic/Scottish culture anyway, so it was a comfy setting. The thing that cemented it for me was when everyone said that I looked like I SHOULD be wearing a kilt... it didn't look odd or out of place. I knew then that I should never have any qualms about wearing it out, though the first few 'regular' outings were the test... heading to Wal-Mart, Target, the grocery store, etc. But it was never met with any sort of rude comments... just curiosity and awkwardness on the part of the people asking questions. I had one person ask me just 2 days ago in the grocery if I had 'just gotten done dancing somewhere'. ??? I suppose they were thinking of Riverdance? This was what I was wearing... go figure!

Oh yeah.... your first windy kilted excursion is always fun. You just have to keep your hands free to catch the updraft on occasion. haha.

Or, just bring along enough swagger to not catch the updraft. Let it fly my man, let it fly!

I'd start off in my own home. When I got more comfortable with my kilt I'd go for a walk in the neighborhood and then make a foray out to some place further out like the food store. Once you got your "sea-legs" so to say, go any where you like as long as you feel comfortable doin it. Build on your experiences and expand from there.

Go ahead and take that first step outside. Once you get your first glimpse of a fair lass doing a double, triple, and then a walk-straight-into-a-light-pole take at your sheer manliness; You'll be hooked for life.
Trust me, be brave lad, be brave.

'Tis true, 'tis true. Get out there and give it a go. You'll never know till you try. It's just not the same if you're only sitting around in your front room with the curtains drawn... and the lights off... and the car parked three streets away so eveyone thinks you're out if they call round and won't knock.

BassClefB mee ol' mate...
You really need to gently iron the creases out of that Saltire behind you.
No offence but it looks like it's been painted on bricks.

I had that mindset this morning, then my SWK cargo (filled) went horizontal from the wind, and I realized that much swagger could be too much swagger.

What? Describe this "too much swagger" that you speak of. I'm unfamiliar with such a strange and foreign term.

If you have or can borrow one, I'd suggest walking a dog. Gives you something to get your mind focused on, and it's a double win--chicks dig cute dogs as well as guys in kilts.
