I have always considered RABBLE as a descriptor for X-markers as a whole. What I was suggesting was a collective noun for a group such as when we get together at a Games or a Kilt Night. Kind of like how a flock of sheep does not describe all the sheep in the world, but a particular and recognizable group, e.g. Mr Jones' flock is distinct from Mr Smith's flock. Thus the Sett of X-makers at Gatlinburg or some such identifier.
I can see this logic, and I agree. The rabble is the whole of our community, whereas a sett is any local gathering, regardless of origin or home.

I think I'm tracking with you now Brian.
The Sett would be made up of many rabbles which are made up of many x-markers / kilties
Sort of: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species

From my limited experience, whenever x-markers get together there is always a lot of fun. So thinking along those lines:-
A frolic of x-markers.
A celebration of x-markers.
A soiree of x-markers.
Other than that, a sett of x-markers sounds good too.

I like a "frolic".
Perhaps we could have two nouns. If the Eskimos can have multiple words for snow, why can't we have multiple words to refer to ourselves, especially in different situations? One could be for serious times, and the other for not-serious times. If we attended a funeral together, we could be a sett of X-Markers. At a games or pub we could be a frolic of X-Markers.
By the way, I aoplogize for not getting to talk with you (Peter C.) Saturday at Gatlinburg, but I'm glad you were in my group pictures.

Reason: interrogative sentences require correct punctuation

If the "rabble" is XMarks as a whole, then wouldn't an obvious subset of that "rabble" be:
a "rabblet"?
Pronounce the 't' or leave it off for that cultured, french sound.

If anyone doesn't think rabble is an apt description of a sub-sett (pun intended) of the entire rabble of X-markers, then you've never been to a Great SEKS meeting. (The locals tend to hire off-duty policemen, put extra dogs in the sheep fold, and lock up all the small children, young girls, cows, and dogs. Especially if word gets out that Turpin is coming! )
I rather fancy a sett of X-markers, frolicing through the local environ, for a soiree in celebration of all things kilted. That sort of outting is always X-tra special, and X-traordinary.
Maybe rabble in attendence is the best we can do. I'm very confused now, so I guess I'd better lie down and rest. I have to get back to the home soon.

Ted, that's hilarious, a "thrombus" of Xmarkers!! LOL
In a similar vein, how about a "bolus" of Xmarkers!!! ROFLMAO!
Howsabout
A "pill" of Xmarkers,
A "tablet" of ...
A "clot" of Xmarkers! Now that's got me laughing!
Seriously,
I like a "sett" of Xmarkers. I also like a "pleat" of xmarkers (but it doesn't sound as lyrical as a "sett" of...
But can't we use a "rabble" of xmarkers?
