Hmm. Some nice looking fellas there. Tartan waistcoat may be a bit much in my tartan. I like it with more subdued tartans, but it looks a bit over the top in bolder tartans to my eyes. A solid color could work well though. Possibly claret.

Shades of browns, greens and golds

2017-04-06 15.16.08.jpgI think subtle tones also look well with kilted attire..........To me no matter what the tartan, it can stand on it's own, and should.........different coloured hose, makes huge changes to the ensemble as well as waist coats and jackets......then the sporran and footwear takes over......to me the more simple the better in regards to day wear

Looks very nice indeed. I had planned on going with some fringed loafers over the Ghillie brogues myself. A bit easier to get on and off, and they look just fine to my eyes.

If I may make a suggestion on that, normal brogues are a lot more comfortable, easier to get on and off, less pretentious (in my mind) and just as Scottish. Gillie brogues are . . . something else.

You have a point, though I prefer the loafers over regular brogues as well. The less I have to do these days, the better. Who REALLY wants to tie shoes anyway, right?

I also like loafers, but somehow with the kilt I prefer the tied brogues. If you insist on loafers though, or just really REALLY prefer them, what about a pair of black brogued loafers with the wee tassels? They come fairly close.

That could work. Best of both worlds it would seem.

If the mood takes, I often wear tassled loafers to formal (morning dress) weddings and at any other wedding formal or smart(suit) or black brogues. I have never ever worn a pair of those "dreadful" ghillie brogues in my life.

I have only had compliments from a knowledgeable kilted group when wearing these.

Very nice. I've got my eye on a burgundy rub pair here locally. Ought to look nice with whatever color tweed I end up with, I'd think.
