I'm a fan of Glenmorangie, and received a bottle of the Glenmorangie Nectar D'or 12 year from a colleague for Christmas...

    Mighty tasty!

There are so many great single malts out there I wish I had the revenue and time to enjoy them all (note to self - prepare a schedule to try a different one regularly).
    Regards,

Even with the revenue and time, I don't think I have the liver.

Will be sharing the Macallans with father and brothers at New Years.

Actually, the Glen Morangie is a 10 year old, but she could pass for twelve.

"And Now For Something Completely Different..."

I finally found a local shop (not surprisingly, the massive and wonderful Eataly store here in Chicago) that stocks Nardini Risirva Grappa. Double-distilled (50% alcohol, but so smooth you'd never know it), sweet and feisty stuff--a fine detour from either malt or grain whisky, and a refreshingly crisp, light, fruitful (and cigar-worthy) after-dinner alternative to Cognac, liqueurs, etc. Highly Recommended.

Happy New Year To All My Kilted Brethren!

Just enjoying the last dram of a Canadian Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye whisky in a bottle I picked up a few weeks ago. It recently won whisky of the year. It is a very approachable dram of 90 proof so a wee drop of water opens it up.

And now for something entirely different.

As a change from bottled european or craft beers for my lighter drinking evenings, I have taken up hard cider, and have developed a preference for the a couple varieties of Woodchuck Hard Apple cider, a couple Angry Orchard hard apple ciders, and Redd's Apple Ale. But most recently, on an even lighter note was the discovery of Woodchuck Pear Cider, Stella Artois Cidre (upscale apple cider), and Crispin Pear Cider. Granted, these are sweeter and lighter bodied than even most standard American beers, but they are a nice before or after dinner drink and have less carbonation (if any) leaving you feeling refreshed but less full. Despite being alcoholic and having reasonably decent %age alcohol content I have never gotten that frankly drunk feeling no matter how many I have partaken of.

As noted above, the 2016 Whisky of the Year, according to Jim Murray, Crown Royal's Northern Harvest Rye. Interestingly, while Canadian whisky is often referred to a "Rye Whisky", most of it now has but a few percent of rye grain in them, relying more on corn and other mashes. Northern Harvest Rye is comprised of 90% rye grain.
