If the loops are there they should be used. I think it is about empty loops are signalizing that you have not finished your dressing.

Well that certainly is a point of view that I had not considered before.

I used to use belt loops for belt and sporran strap. I read posts from those wiser than me here that this can permanently damage your kilt by pulling it out of shape. I examined the physics and agreed it was plausible so now I don't use the loops for my kilt belts but only my sporran straps. It's a personal thing mind you. It's just what I do.

Oh What a fuss, Oh what a palarva, Oh whatever next.
For once and for all, Belt loops are for the belt, if you wear a kilt handmade to your specific measurements, and a well made kilt at that, then no way will the belt pull your kilt out of shape, you have no need to wear the belt cinched up tight if the kilt fits properly, the belt loops merely prevents the belt riding up at the back of the kilt.
Belt Loops for belts, sporran straps don't go through as the buckles may catch on the loops and prevent the sporran from being moved to one side, a quick fiddle will soon rectify the problem though.
It's not rocket science

Each to their own eh? Making a choice based on informed opinion, which is what these discussions are about. No fuss, no palarva, no need for once and for alls ... It's not rocket science!!

I've nothing against belt loops, but I've always thought of the phrase as a bit of an oxymoron. To me, traditional kilts look odd with them on. But, I'm happy to move with the times!

Looks like the Kilted Legend agrees with you, Chris.
