    Belt through loops or over?

Ok rabble, would you were your kilt belt trhough the belt loops or over them? How about the sporran strap? I tried with belt both through and not through the 2 belt loops at the rear of the kilt, but can't find any direction about proper proceedure for this. I don't feel that the kilt belt through the loops bunches up the kilt in the back, but am not really sure if it indeed needs to go through them.

Also, I assume the sporran strap goes through these loops in order to help keep the sporran ridding at the proper height. I would also think that it makes sense to run the sporran strap over (outside) of the kilt belt ie. put the sporran on after the kilt belt itself.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I use the belt loops, have 3 of them, but only the back one for the sporran or it rides too high. I am sure we'll get some other thoughts here, too.

Some of my kilts have belt loops some don't. If I have them I use them.

Also I do something that I have been told isn't correct. I have belt loops on my belts that I run the sporran belt through. Over all I think I prefer to have belt loops. But I'm not a stickler. I now have six tanks and they are evenly split - 3 with, 3 without. Most of my casual kilts have belt loops about 3 to 1.

I should also say that I always wear a belt, except with the PC or when I am wearing a vest. Without belt loops, I do find that by mid day and mid afternoon, I must re-adjust.

If i'm going to be driving somewhere or standing up and sitting down alot, like traveling to the highland games from my campground or whatnot, I use the back loop (if it exists) to keep the kilt from pulling down in the back and getting awkward when getting in and out of seats

I have heard that they actually were sporran loops. I usually put the sporran strap through the loops first and then the belt over the whole thing.

I have kilts with and without loops, but I never put a belt through them. Since the kilt doesn't need one to hold it up, it can only do bad things. I do put the sporran through the loops if the kilt has them.

From my days as a wee lad a looonng time ago, the loops are for the sporran strap/chain, so as to keep the sporran front and center, as well as to keep it from sliding down the hip as you march. My 40 year old kilt has small loops, just enough for the sporran strap. I have always worn a belt outside and below the loops. This helps hold the sporran chain such that the sporran doesn't fly way up while high marching. The belt outside the loops is also good for not twisting the kilt during drill.
My function in a band back then was to carry the bass drum on my back, as I was tall and skinny, and tone deaf.

Recently I read here where the Scottish lassies say the guys in Scotland don't. Guess I'm programmed to put a belt through the loops. My Newsome box pleats don't have them. I find I don't miss them.

I'll use 'em for the sporran strap - I dinnae use a chain.

Then the belt over the whole works. I don't like worryin' about my sporran creepin' about.
