The Tartan Thistle's website: http://www.tartanthistle.com
They also have the piper's kilt hose, which looks a bit better than the lower end stuff, IMO...

For those who complain about $300 dress hose: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tartan-KILT-SO...QQcmdZViewItem
Hawick kilt hose, red and green with white overstripe, now at GBP 4.99.
One of the merchants at Stone Mountain games last weekend had quite a few of these wool dress hose made by Hawick Sock Co. There were none in colors that go with my kilts, but they look sturdy, thick and the colors were nice. They were selling for US $ 50.

Even $50 is a really good price on those.

Most pipe bands wear white and I have never been sure why. does anyone else notice that the tradiotional bands and the military bands wear red and white hose not plain white? A few pipe majors need to wise up when it comes to uniforms.

The above discussion reminds me of the "official" reaction of the art critics when S. Dali first exhited his "Sacrament of the Last Supper." They went ape over it. When in a few years it sold over a million prints, they suddenly found it "trite". Nuff said. Snobs come in all sizes, colours, and nationalities. The only question is, does it look good? (A lot of differences in taste here, of course). I have white, off white, green and diced red and green hose (my dress kilt has red, green yellow and azure). So what is the problem? Unbleached wool is a creamy white to gray-black in colour. So where is the problem?

Still just have off white hose... Still planning on getting brown Lewis hose...
I've read this thread several times now, and I feel different about it each time.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I wear cream hose now and then, it depends on the total look of the outfit I'm wearing. I don't buy into the notion that something is always wrong or always right (at least when it comes to dress). If you think it works, wear it.

My husband gets what I knit for him, so he has a heather green, a grey and nice dark blue all done in the John Anderson pattern. His new pair will be cream, but I haven't decided on the pattern yet. He has very thick calves, and I shudder to think of them in an argyle or any other two color combination. Good grief, that's too much for they eye to take in, so I'm voting for what looks best on the individual.

Those sound very nice. I agree, not that I have to look at anyone, but wearing something that stands out too much spoils the look. My point is always, there are colors that look great on one person, but horrible on another. Best to figure out which is which and go with those... When I was growing up, I had to wear lots of bright orange or bright yellow because... well parents. When I wear those colors, that is all people see! I learned that pastel colors or summer colors work much better for me. Other people might look bland in those colors.
