Just let the wife know
Well, I just let my wife know I was getting a kilt. It didn't go over very well
In a dusgusted tone she said "well don't wear it around me."
For some reason she is very opposed to me having one. She's not even giving it a chance, being very close minded about it.
I hope when she gets over her initial anger, she'll at leave give it a chance. Wish me luck

Hi Dana
May take awhile, but we all know you'll persevere. When I first learned how to make kilts, I said to my husband that he would look _great_ in a kilt. The look of horror on his face was, well, you know...
My daughter and I just kept taking him to Highland games all summer, and, at the last games of the summer, we said to him, well, just tell us when you see a kilt you like the look of. Lots of don't like that, don't like that, that's awful, and then....oh - I like that one. We bustled him right over to one of the vendors and got him to look through tartans, hypothetically speaking, of course. Took another 6 months before I got him to let me take his measurements, but it was still hypothetical - he still didn't want me to actually order the tartan. Too late for a short story, but he now has a couple of kilts and happily wears them to games. He still doesn't wear them in general. Maybe someday.
So, maybe one strategy is to take your wife somewhere where she can see lots of people in kilts so that it becomes something that isn't so outre.
Best of luck!!

Dana, I feel for ya my friend and I hope she come over quickly. I was lucky and my wife supported me completely. Judging from most of the things I've read here, most wives do come around, especially when they see the effect it has on other women. My wife is now at the point of hanging back and watching, even egging them on..

I would venture to say that most of us found that our wives were not over enthusiatic, to say the least, but the shear sight of a man in a kilt, and reactions of others (women especially) brings them around.
Good luck.

Same here. The kilt was actually my wife's idea! She also loves the attention I get from other ladies. Hang in there Dana and good luck!

Dana,
have you tried introducing her to this site at all. just reading some of the stories and experiences here might offer her some little bit of insight into the kilted lifestyle that she might be having trouble with. Just a thought.
be well,

My wife thought it was strange as well.... Why would I WANT to wear a KILT?
Well, we went to our first highland games as a couple..... after about 10 minutes, I said "aren't kilts just beautiful?", she responded "yeah, I can see it, these guys do look pretty good."
She doesn't appreciate how much they cost (for a tank), but at least she is now accepting of my desire for kilts...

I don't think this is the time to overload her with kilt stuff. I'll be walking on egg shells anyway. I'm sure she doesn't want to hear anything about kilts, she seems almost sickining against them. I hope she comes around.
I hope by the time she gets home form work today she will have cooled off a bit. Not a good way to start the weekend

Similar deal came up on the UK board a while ago. The lovely Kate suggested the gentleman wear his kilt to the bedroom so his wife could see the "advantages" it offered her.
