Revisions for kiltmaking book
Hi folks
Projecting ahead, it looks like I will probably sell all the remaining copies of my book (The Art of Kiltmaking) some time in the next year and a half or so. I'm going to do a second edition, and I'm looking for volunteers who are willing to use the book to make a kilt and to offer suggestions for revisions in the instructions.
So! If you have a hankering to make a traditional kilt out of wool, I'd be happy to send you a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for suggestions about where the instructions could be improved, plus a "thank you" in the credits. If you've already bought the book and have used it to make a kilt, I'd be happy to refund your money in exchange for your comments.
Some day, I'm also going to improve my web site, and I'd love to have pictures of you and the kilt that you made using the instructions in the book. So, if you'd be willing to do that, too, that would be great.
Just as a note: this is not the kind of book that you can just read and offer comments on (except the first couple of chapters). Unless you're actually making a kilt and have fabric and needle in hand, the instructions are pretty overwhelming. So, if you want to do this, you'll really need to bash on and really make a kilt with the book.
If you're interested, PM me with your name and mailing address, and I'll get a book off to you.
Cheers!
Barb

You said a mouthful there!!!!!
I'm still trying to translate what you said into words a non-sewer can understand.
BTW. How can the pleats vary as much as 1/3" between the waistband and the hips and keep the stripes straight?

Hi Doc
You just make sure either that you keep a color boundary or stripe down the dead center of a pleat or that you keep a stripe down the edge of a pleat.
For some reason, I can't seem to attach an image to show what I mean. I'll try again later.

That speaks volumes. It can be like reading Gaelic sometimes for guys with the "want", but not the grasp on the "lingo".

It is like that in most every field. I can talk ballistics until your eyes glaze over, or talk guns, and leather until you fall asleep standing. But I don't speak tailor worth a hoot.

Ain't that the truth Doc?
Go to a tax preparer, and listen to them ramble-off about W-2, 1040, 1040a, 1040ez, 10w40, 687-5309...
I know that when I talk to people about "cleaning-up" their computers, I need to make it as understandable as possible without sounding like Mr. Rogers.
I know that with Barb's knowledge, the guys are MORE than willing to buy the book and make the kilts, as long as they can follow the directions easily.
Been there myself!

Just to let you know Barb, I am going to try to clear off my plate for this project! If only I can accomplish it without buying a smaller plate. Even if I cannot make it, I wish you well on the next book.
